時至今日ATM服務深入民眾生活，尤其在台灣ATM更是遍地開花，金管會統計，截5月底全台共有2.74萬台ATM，等於每840人就擁有1台ATM，密度堪稱世界第一。
ATM近年已悄悄進化變身為VTM (Virtual Teller Machine，遠程視訊櫃員機)，歐美甚至中國、香港都在這2、3年廣設這種結合真人服務機台......
儘管國人對ATM耳熟能詳，但說起VTM很多人應該很陌生，VTM的概念是Video加上ATM。有別於傳統ATM只能單向操作，民眾透過螢幕與遠端銀行員雙向溝通，讓預約開戶、掛失金融卡、申辦信用卡、舊貸戶對保、財富管理KYC（認識你的客戶）等，一機搞定。
一銀、華南銀和玉山銀都設有VTM，一銀在北中南選定20家分行設VTM，除舊貸戶的簽約對保到下午5點外，其餘服務是採24小時，半夜也能申請信用卡；華南銀則有5台服務時間到晚上9點。
玉山銀在北中南共3台VTM，視訊服務從早上9點至下午5點半，也是目前國內市場唯一結合領取現金服務的機台。VTM廠商表示，每家銀行考量不同，一銀機器沒有結合領取現鈔，主要考量諮詢服務所花費的時間較久，會耽誤其他客戶提領現鈔，若是分為兩台機器，可以服務更多客戶。
玉山銀行個人金融事業處資深經理蔡宗樺表示，玉山銀首創愛心手語客服諮詢，雖非大眾客群，但自2月中旬上線以來，3台設備共使用68次。
VTM與ATM除可取代銀行據點不足外，也可紓解銀行臨櫃人潮。以一銀為例，永春分行緊鄰捷運站，許多上班族會利用下班時間主動使用；而大安分行只要大廳有較多人排隊等開戶，就會請客戶直接使用VTM。
一銀主管表示，民眾選擇與VTM真人客服對談時，預約開戶會先掃描身分證，機器自動將資料帶入，缺的資訊比如電話會由客服幫忙填寫，填寫完基本資訊再到櫃台領取存摺與金融卡。若是申請信用卡，機器會印出填寫完的申請表，民眾簽名後由機器吸回即可。
