U-boat/ U-Boot,

German WWI submarine remains resurface on French coast
The remains of a German UC-61 submarine have reappeared near a French seaside resort. The submarine was used to sink merchant ships during the First World War. Parts of the U-boat have been visible since December.

U-boat is an anglicised version of the German word U-Boot, a shortening of Unterseeboot, literally "underseaboat." While the German term refers to any submarine, the English one refers specifically to military submarines operated by Germany, particularly in the First and Second World Wars. Wikipedia
